lowering the bar on sexual harrassment.

it seems that if a kid goes to school, they have a 62% chance of being sexually harrassed. of course, the study that determined this statistic rather lowered the bar on the operational definition of sexual harrassment. i won't go into it since Villainous Company (a great read, btw) has it all covered, tyvm.

This has been a big story where I live lately... Mostly involving teachers and young girls. But you know, now that I think about it, a lot of the "teasing" the boys did in junior high would be sexual harrassment today. Scary.

OMG, that story about the little boy being expelled just kills me. When are people going to mix a little common sense in with their "zero tolerence??"

Great link.

Michele sent me, Jac.

Yeah, that study does reek of the bullshit factor. Hell, by that standard I've been sexually harrassed dozens if not hundreds of times--and I'm a guy. Things are a lot worse for women.

Like Mo said, much of boy-girl interaction in school is of a nature that would be defined as sexual harrassment by the standards of that study. Frankly I don't see how men and women could flirt let alone get romantically serious with one another without crossing that line. Cassandra has a good post over on her blog. Thanks, Jac.

While I agree that sexual harrassment is wrong, I think parents would be doing their children (especially their daughters) a bigger favor by teaching them how to stick up for themselves rather then trying to 'rescue' them everytime someone looks at them.

And I gotta ask....who's Michele?
